Arul Trust eV supports 35 families from the region in providing assistance to flood victims in Sri Lanka.

Rhine-Neckar region / Sri Lanka. Following severe flooding in coastal areas of northern Sri Lanka, affected families in the towns of Columbuthurai, Udayapuram, and Maniyanthoddam have received support from the Rhine-Neckar region. The damage was primarily caused by seawater encroaching on numerous homes.

Many families lost their homes, household goods, food supplies, and livelihoods in the floods. Children, the elderly, and the sick were particularly affected. The Catholic Sisters of the Columbuthurai Community (Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco) responded immediately after the disaster and began distributing food packages to a total of 35 affected households. Aid was provided through personal home visits to quickly identify and meet the most urgent needs.

As the relief efforts dragged on, local initiatives reached their financial limits. At this stage, Father Dr. Arul Lourdu, through the Arul Trust eV, provided additional funding for flood relief. This enabled the support to continue and be expanded to include further measures.

In addition to food supplies, particularly needy households received dry goods rations. Furthermore, children were provided with shoes, school bags, books, and basic school supplies to facilitate their return to school life.

According to local officials, the funds provided were used exclusively for flood relief. The sisters continue to support the affected families in cleaning up their damaged homes and gradually rebuilding their daily lives.

The aid campaign demonstrates how the commitment of regional supporters can make international emergency relief concrete and effective.
