A work of love
Christians refer to the period from Ash Wednesday to Easter as Lent or Eastertide. During these 40 days of fasting, many of us abstain from certain foods, stimulants, or perhaps from using media such as television or the internet. While simple abstinence without a spiritual dimension might be healthy for body and soul, in the context of faith it would certainly not be the goal of Christian fasting. The goal of fasting is to follow a path of repentance and conversion through abstinence and concentration on essentials, accompanied by prayer.
However, abstinence from consumption also has a social component. The savings achieved through abstinence should not be hoarded and thrown away. Christian fasting also includes acts of charity.
The Arul Trust is a work of charity through its support for those in need around the world. Wouldn't your support and donation also be a work of love for you?
