Arul Trust eV: Food distribution and wool blanket distribution in Delhi – solidarity in action during times of cold
Delhi, the capital of India, is suffering not only from the cold during these winter days, but also from profound poverty. Many people come to the metropolis from neighboring states, hoping for work and a better life. But for most, this hope is not fulfilled. Many of the migrants are illiterate, without stable employment, without social security. They try to reorganize their lives day after day – often on the brink of survival.
The gap between rich and poor is particularly visible in Delhi. On the one hand, people drive through the city in luxury cars, while on the other, people walk barefoot or without socks through the cold nights. Families sleep on the bare ground under bridges and flyovers, exposed to the cold without protection.
We at Arul Trust eV could not ignore this reality. Even though a small organization cannot offer sustainable solutions to this structural poverty, we wanted to at least show our solidarity. On Tuesday, January 13, 2026, we cooked for around 2,000 people: a simple but nutritious meal of rice and lentil curry.
Despite no prior announcement, numerous people arrived. They patiently lined up in long queues and gratefully accepted the food. For many, it was one of the few hot meals they would receive that day.
For several days now, we have also been distributing wool blankets together with the students of "Study Feeds" to people who have to sleep outdoors at night. On January 13th, we were again able to hand out blankets to the poorest of the poor – those who are completely exposed to the cold.
These actions are small steps, but they bring warmth, dignity, and hope – at least for a moment. Arul Trust eV relies on donations to continue offering this kind of support in the future.
