Why am I involved with "Arul Trust"? – Today: Günter Haritz
Today we introduce our club member Günter Haritz. The Arul Trust association is proud to have a true celebrity among its members in former professional cyclist Günter Haritz. Günter Haritz was the 1972 Olympic champion in the German track cycling team pursuit in Munich, a two-time world champion (1970 and 1973), a member of the West German Team of the Year in 1973, a two-time European champion (1974 and 1976), a seven-time German champion, and an eleven-time winner of six-day races. After his successful professional career, he opened the specialist cycling shop "Günter Haritz Radsport" in Leimen in 1981.
Günter Haritz says regarding his membership in the Arul Trust support association:
"My connection to Father Arul Lourdu is twofold: firstly, cycling. I always maintained and prepared Father Lourdu's bicycle for his multi-day tours to Santiago de Compostela or Kevelaer. Secondly, as a devout Christian, I have always had a very good rapport with Father Lourdu. Over the years, this has led to a warm and trusting relationship."
When Father Lourdu approached me in 2022, after the founding of the Arul Trust support association, to ask if I would like to become a member, I didn't have to think twice. Helping poor people around the world is very important to me, and so I was very happy to become a member of the association. Furthermore, I have complete confidence that with Father Lourdu and his board, the membership fees and donations will actually reach those who need them.
We are very pleased about the show of trust that Günter Haritz has placed in our work of charity and thank him sincerely for the conversation.
